Vodafone mHealth Solutions represent the latest exciting stage in our long involvement in healthcare. We’ve been actively supporting the health sector with the development and application of powerful mobility tools and solutions for over a decade since our Spanish Foundation launched our first mHealth service.
Over 10 years later, led by the track record in mHealth of our Foundation and R&D teams, our experience in this exciting field of enabling mobility extends to nearly 40 projects, with some of them running for up to eight years. The focus of these projects has been determined by local and regional health needs and trends, ranging from wellness and prevention support, to assisted living, long-term condition management and post-hospital condition management.
Whereas our early commercial experiences in mHealth where predominantly text-messaging based, such as medication reminders and patient engagement schemes, today we are working closely with industry experts to implement more comprehensive mHealth Solutions. A key example is our continued partnership with the Spanish Red Cross, that begun in 2005, to market and enable a localisation service for Alzheimer patients.

Our Group Vodafone Foundation is a founding member of the mHealth Alliance alongside the UN Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation. This supports the adoption of mHealth through policy research and advocacy and the development of interoperable and sustainable mHealth solutions.
In 2009 Vodafone mHealth Solutions was created. This dedicated business unit offers a centralised approach to supporting both local and global health organisations across pharma, medtech, payer, and provider organisations. In 2011 an industry-first breakthrough was announced after our Access to Medicine solution in Tanzania – SMS for Life – saw its first ever mHealth full country roll-out. This life-saving solution is enabling timely stock management of five different malaria drugs for all 4,600 local health facilities in Tanzania.
